THE DYAD -- Part II

We have examined the physical properties possessed by the Dyad. We have seen how these properties are associated with light and energy. I have shown how this quality is associated with the trigram for Fire, at which point I revealed that the top line of the trigram indicates whether the trigram exhibits solar qualities (solid line) or lunar qualities (broken line).

This brings us to the astrological associations. This day is clearly associated with the Sun, given the existence of alternating periods of light and darkness.

At this point in the progression, the surface of the planet is shrouded in mist. This mist is the result of the planet's surface temperature rising in response to the ignition of the Sun. The ice that covered the planet pole to pole had begun to escape into the atmosphere as vapor. Vision would be severely limited if there were any creatures capable of sight. There is however one creature. The diffused light that make its way through the layers of mist possesses energy enough to fuel a simple chemical reaction.

Let us suppose, for simplicity's sake, that there was still a world encompassing blob beneath the layer of ice that's now thinning. This blob is long since dead, or at least dormant, and the ice has done a lot of damage over the eons. But somewhere, there's a spark of life. And this spark grows stronger in step with the steady beat of light and darkness.

Something within the flesh of the blob retains the power of adaptation and mutation and it is able modify the structure of its cells so that they can harness this pulse of energy. These cells are able to convert this energy into food which is then stored within their flesh. And so, the blob's nature has changed, as it morphs instead into a growing colony of photosynthetic cells.

This new life-form, known as blue-green bacteria, is the Earth's sense organ for perceiving the Sun.

In astrology, the Sun rules the sign Leo. Leo, the lion is described as an individual who must remain in the center of attention, must be in the limelight, in order to fulfill his nature. While there were no lions at this point in the Earth's development, this sign is likely associated with photosynthetic bacteria.

As you may recall, on the individual level, the Monad represents the body, inert, like clay. It is passive and receptive.

The Dyad, on the individual level, represents the skin, which is sensitive to touch and impact. This is the level of awareness and attention. Fire.
